Mille Lacs Lake Fishing Guide

MILLE LACS LAKE FISHING GUIDE

Minnesota's crown jewel, Mille Lacs Lake ranked as the top bass fishing lake in the nation in 2017 and 2018. Located in central Minnesota, this world-class smallmouth fishery is chock full of bass over four pounds, with some even reaching seven pounds! Covering approximately 133,000 acres, the lake stands as the second-largest in the state. Its diverse underwater topography, including rocky structures, sandy flats, and varying depths, creates an ideal habitat for smallmouth bass to thrive. The lake's clear waters and expansive shoreline contribute to its allure, attracting anglers from far and wide in pursuit of the incredible fish that call this place home.

Smallmouth bass on Mille Lacs Lake exhibit a penchant for specific types of structure and cover, making strategic angling imperative. Rocky points, submerged reefs, and drop-offs are prime locations where smallmouth bass congregate. The rocky shorelines and underwater boulders provide excellent hiding spots and ambush points for these feisty fish. Additionally, submerged vegetation and sandbars around the lake offer additional cover and foraging opportunities for smallmouth bass, creating a dynamic and challenging fishing environment.

As one of the premier Mille Lacs Lake fishing guides, Trevor targets smallmouth bass with a number of various techniques to entice them into biting. Popular methods include finesse fishing with drop-shot rigs, Ned rigs, and swimbaits that imitate smaller fish. Topwater lures, such as poppers and walking baits, are effective during the warmer months when smallmouth bass are more active near the surface. Regardless of the chosen technique, the thrill of smallmouth bass fishing on Mille Lacs Lake lies in the challenge of navigating its diverse underwater terrain and outsmarting these aggressive fighters.
